“The motion of innovation”

“I have made this wonderful discovery, and incidentally, a son was born today” Carl Friedrich Gauss “The prince of Mathematics” a quote that symbolizes the essential endeavors of each mathematicians. As we journey the world of mathematics in the 3rd edition of the Story of Math’s, “The Frontiers of Space” Professor Marcus Du Sautoy discuss how some of the mathematicians of Europe contributed to the big development of the expansion, and advancement of mathematical theories.

Professor Marcus Du Sautoy first introduced PierodelaFrancesca a mathematician and a painter, his talent in arts gave him advantage in dwelling mathematical perspective, in his work Flagellation of Christ he demonstrate the perspective technique by illustrating 3D alongside with 2D, he shows mathematics in its motion. The second mathematician that he introduced was Rene’ Descartes, a mathematician that believes that the best way to meditate is by being in bed. Rene’ Descartes is a genius who dwells in mathematical, philosophical and scientifically ideas. He relates that philosophy is best fit with mathematics, more so, as mathematician he proposed the link between algebra and geometry. Marin Mersenne a Parisian monk who is endowed with love of Math’s and God urge the people to read the works of Descartes about geometry. More so, he published findings on the properties of numbers of n new character rivaling the work of Descartes. It was Pierre de Fermat the third European mathematician that Prof. Du Sautoy introduced,Fermat is the mathematician that introduced the modern theory that said to be the theorems that protects modern credit card on internet. The fourth mathematician was Isaac Newton who was the mathematician that introduced calculus that can explain while other branches of math can’t. This calculus is a way to deal with the maths of motion and change, which engineers and physicist used. Newton was challenge by Gottfried Leibniz fifth mathematician that was introduced, Leibniz was described as a very prominent mathematician that studied calculus and develop differential and integral calculus without the presence of the ideas of Newton’s calculus because his works were not publish, unlike Leibniz, though the royal court decided to give the claim to Newton and accusedLeibniz of plagiarism it didn’t stop his study to be known, according to mathematicians his study is being used because of it easier than Newton’s. Another Known mathematician was Euler, who popularized the symbol pi. In his lifetime he became blind but for him it is a way to get on with his mathematics without distractions. More so, he introduced the Basel problem and . The second to the last was Carl Friedrich Gauss, “The Prince of Mathematics” he was the mathematician that discovered a new pattern in prime numbers. One of his amazing discovery was the used of imaginary numbers, he used this kind of numbers to help us understand radio to build bridges and airplanes. But, above all is his understanding that the earth shape by the use of Gauss tower in the field of geometry somehow put is ideals into reality. The last mathematician was Bernhard Reimann who believes that math’s was salvation. In his lecture about the foundation on geometry he defined geometry and its relation with the world and deliberate what geometry is by using multi-dimensional space.

As we evaluate the knowledge we possess today we can say that the values and education that is widely given to use is the mere product of the intelligence of these mathematicians, knowing that  these  mathematicians devoted there selves for knowledge that solves and indicates our modern world. As entails in the 3rd edition of the Story of Math’s, “The Frontiers of Space”discussed by Professor Marcus Du Sautoy we can say that each discovery of these mathematicians conduct a very fascinating perspective, even though some of its essence are not in use today, but these mere numbers may become or will be the solution to some questions yet to be answers.

  2. I agree that these mathematicians made big contribution towards modernization, thus contributed to technologies that what we have now, the irony is numbers helps us, considering that it comprises ethical analysis of different fields, but mostly also puts are grades in danger.
