The Genius of the East
showed the contribution of Asians for the development of Mathematics. It is
something to be proud of, that the great evolution of mathematics came from
Asians. If not for the Chinese and Indians we would definitely have
difficulties in dealing our mathematics.
The
Chinese are responsible for the decimal or base 10 number system that we’re
using in the present time. Imagine if we’re dealing with mathematical problems
using base 8 or 16 that would probably give us a hard time on solving. Chinese
people have their own way of solving for small figures by the use of the magic
square. These people used mathematics for engineering projects like the Great
Wall of China.
I never
thought that the Indians would be the utmost contributor in the history of
mathematics. The numerical symbols that they are using a long time ago were
very similar to the symbols that are used today. Zero had a symbol and meaning
because of the Indian’s belief of the nothingness; that human came from
nothingness and will end up in nothingness. Because of the importance of
nothingness in their religion, they gave symbol and meaning to it. The concept
of negative numbers and infinity are part of the Indian mathematics. Negative
numbers came from their tradition for having debt.
Indians
were so fascinated with the moon that they calculated its diameter. They also
found out that the distance between earth, moon and sun forms a right triangle.
Algebra and the evolution of solution to cubic equation are credited to the
people of the Middle East.
Negative
numbers and infinities exist because mathematics makes sense of the impossible.
Mathematics makes impossible things to realization.
Indeed, the contributions made by the mathematicians from the East had explored the world to spread the kind of numeration system that they have which was decimal, the kind of numeration system that we are using today.
ReplyDeleteI agree, solving with binary, octal and hex is very difficult, and the discovery of decimal numeration system is one of the brightest thing that they have invented. and its true that the reason things are invented is because of our everyday need.
