Imagine it without Math

“Our imagination is our best weapon”, as a testimony of this phrase, there is mathematics. It is an example why human imagination became the best apparatus in obtaining power in the society. In “The Story of Math’s” second edition, the Genius of the East, Marcus du Sautoy discussed that when the Greek stagnated, and the eastern mathematician rose.
Mathematicians are the brain of the Imperial China. For instance the Great Wall of China was engineered for the defense of china from invaders its structural built was amazingly constructed that it last hundreds of years. More so, because Chinese were captivated with patterns they found a way how to manage the emperors mistress, called harem.
On the other hand, because of the belief of the Indians “Nothing to nothing” they found a way to characterize zero “0”, where the other mathematicians didn’t symbolize. Indians were so dedicated in exploring mathematics that they were the one who develop of the understanding of the infinite and negative numbers. Thus, they were the one who invented trigonometry, mathematics of angles. But, the major advancement was the invention of the language of algebra by the Middle East.
It is human nature that we human exceed our limits, because we seek advancement and development we look for ways to figure out those problems. Never the less, Chinese and Indian mathematician’s figured these problems with the help of their very high IQ because of the need for answers.
The Hindu-Arabic numeral, which we use today, the 0-9 numbers made a major impact towards our social, intellectual and educational development. I came to a realization when ma’am said that “what will happen if we did not used Hindu-Arabic numerals” I thought, if we used other numerals such as binary, octal or hex, etc. what will happen to me, because I can barely understand mathematics in Hindu-Arabic numerical form, I can barely think of an equation with binary numbers, thus, if it happened there will be no progress because of the difficulty of understanding it.
Come to think of it, mathematics though honestly we hate it, made a big impact in our life. We used it in our daily life, though unaware we solve, equate and answer different equations and problems we are facing every day. So let us thank those who invented mathematics because they make our everyday life easier, but, it doesn’t mean that i don’t hate them because I frequently fail my math exams. On the other hand life wouldn’t be that fun when it’s easier, let’s just say life is boring without mathematics.

  1. Yes, I agree on this review. Mathematics really has done a great effort in advancing our world. Technologies wouldn't be invented without it. Mathematics may gave us hard times especially in studying but then, look on the brighter side, Mathematics gave us knowledge to do anything. So I salute those people behind the invention, development and application of Mathematics. :)

  3. This review has a point, Inventions of different scientists became a success for Mathematics has a big part of it. Without Math's existence we could have never invented our technologies that we use now, even though Math's a big problem for us students it can be a big help to our modern world. Me as a student may hate Math but I admire those people who contributed ideas for Math because they are one of the main reasons behind every technologies, progress and development of the world.

  5. I agree to what you said that "life is boring without mathematics." since Mathematics, has really been a part of our life and if weren't for Mathematics, life would become harder because we wouldn't how to solve our problems. Good job in your book review and keep up the good work!
